Andreas Martin Hofmeir

Biography

Andreas Martin Hofmeir is one of the most versatile musicians of our time, a true crossover artist moving between genres. He is Professor of Tuba at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, a founding member of the Bavarian cult band LaBrassBanda, and also works as a conductor and author. He has received numerous awards both as a cabaret artist and as a classical tubist.

Born in Munich, Hofmeir discovered the tuba at the age of twelve after first studying piano, percussion, and tenor horn. He went on to study in Berlin, Stockholm, and Hanover, winning many prizes, including the German Music Competition Award in 2005, the ECHO Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year in 2013, and the Bavarian State Prize for Music in 2020.

As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, and the Saxon Wind Philharmonic. In chamber music, Hofmeir is a pioneer for the tuba, regularly exploring new territory with ensembles such as the duo tuba & harp with Andreas Mildner and the Schmid/Hofmeir HochTief GmbH with Benjamin Schmid. His chamber concerts have taken him to festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Ludwigsburg Festival, and the Kronberg Festival, as well as to major concert halls such as the Berlin and Cologne Philharmonie and the Vienna Musikverein. With his European Tuba Power project and various jazz collaborations, he also dedicates himself to contemporary music.

Since 2022, Hofmeir has also been active as a conductor, leading concerts with the Ingolstadt Chamber Philharmonic, the Audi Wind Philharmonic, and the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra. He is Artistic Director of the Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Orchestra and, since 2024, Music Director of the Sinfonietta Essenbach.

For over twenty years, Hofmeir has also enjoyed success as a cabaret artist. With his ensembles Star Fours and “Die Qualkommission,” he has won numerous awards. He publishes books, audiobooks, and poetry. Guests on his own cabaret show “Wer dablost’s?” have included Olaf Schubert and Gregor Gysi.

As a boundary-crossing artist, Hofmeir combines classical music, jazz, and cabaret in extraordinary crossover programs, appearing on stage as a classical soloist, presenter, actor, cabaret performer, and jazz musician.

In addition to his musical work, he is actively involved as an ambassador for educational and cultural initiatives, including through the cultural association Assing 7 e.V., which he founded and which organizes benefit concerts for children’s projects in Kenya, Syria, and Lebanon.
