Biography
Anthony Plog has experienced many sides of classical music. As an orchestral player, he was principal trumpet the San Antonio Symphony, Utah Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Stockholm Royal Philharmonic, and the Malmo Symphony (Sweden). In addition to being a freelance musician in Los Angeles, he was a member of the Saint Louis Brass Quintet, Fine Arts Brass Quintet, and Summit Brass. He has taught at the University of Southern California, Arizona State University, California State University-Northridge, Music Academy of the West, Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland), Accademia di Santa Cecilia (Italy), and the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik (Germany). As a soloist, he has released several record albums.
Now a widely recognized composer, Plog has written over 100 works, ranging from short pieces for brass to 7 full-length operas. He has received commissions from dozens of ensembles, including Summit Brass, American Brass Quintet, Saint Louis Brass Quintet, Malmo Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Musicians, University of Texas-Austin, National Repertory Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, GECA Brass Ensemble of France, and many others. He recently concluded work on a podcast that has 107 interviews, and in addition writes weekly for Substack.
