Biography

Dr. Deanna Swoboda is an internationally recognized tuba performer, educator, and entrepreneur, currently serving as Associate Director of Faculty Personnel and Music Graduate Studies and Professor of Music at Arizona State University’s School of Music, Dance and Theatre. She teaches tuba and euphonium, entrepreneurship, and music courses, coaches chamber music, and designs creative performances.

Swoboda’s performing career began with the Dallas Brass, a six-piece ensemble that tours the U.S. and Europe, presenting hundreds of concerts and working extensively in public schools and universities. She has performed solo recitals and with major ensembles such as the United States Army String Orchestra, Denver Brass, Monarch Brass, Kalamazoo Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, and Athena Brass Band. She is the creator and performer of the motivational recruiting video and music workshop “Band Blast Off,” used to support and enhance public school music programs.

As an international clinician and educator, Dr. Swoboda has presented and performed at prestigious events including the International Tuba-Euphonium Conferences (ITEC), Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Texas Music Educator Association, Arizona Music Educator Association, International Women’s Brass Conference, and the US Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference. She has also performed in Spain, Germany, Portugal, and Russia, including at the National Conservatory of Madrid, Deutsches Tubaforum, and St. Petersburg Conservatory.

Deanna’s discography includes Deanna’s Wonderland (Summit), Shamanic Journey (Potenza), Games for Brass (Summit), Table for Three (Summit), Fanfare and Flourish (Potenza), and Identity (Soundset Recordings). She has also authored the workbook Activate Your Music Performance. Dr. Swoboda’s professional roles include serving national and international organizations, including Past President-International Tuba Euphonium Association (I.T.E.A.), Board Member-International Leonard Falcone Festival, Secretary-International Women’s Brass Conference and is currently an Eastman Music Company tuba artist.
