Biography
F. Mark Latimer is an elite percussionist and timpanist with a distinguished career highlighted by his long-standing tenure as the Principal Timpanist for “The President’s Own” US Marine Band and Chamber Orchestra. Throughout his service he performed for historical milestones including seven Presidential Inaugurations, four Presidential State Funerals, and numerous high-profile White House events. Latimer has been featured as a concerto soloist and has shared the stage with icons ranging from legendary composer John Williams at the Kennedy Center Honors to the rock band, The Who. His extensive discography includes critically acclaimed recordings with “The President’s Own,” showcasing his artistry across standard and contemporary symphonic repertoire. He has also performed and recorded with Summit Brass, America’s leading large brass ensemble.
Now recently retired from the military, Mark continues to perform at the highest levels of the orchestral world as an extra timpanist and percussionist with premier ensembles, including the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. He also maintains a vital presence in the nation’s capital as a regular timpanist for regional orchestras and ensembles performing at Capital One Hall and the Washington National Cathedral. Combining decades of elite military-musical service with a vibrant freelance career, Latimer remains a highly sought-after orchestral percussionist and timpanist.
