Joseph Parisi

Biography

Joseph Parisi is internationally recognized as a conductor, educator, and performer whose work spans wind, brass, and jazz ensembles. A Curators’ Distinguished Professor at the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory, he conducts the Conservatory Wind Ensemble, serves on the conducting and music education faculty, and leads programs in arts management and entrepreneurship. His artistry reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, expressive excellence, and the advancement of both new and established repertoire, with particular emphasis on working with living composers and fostering meaningful artistic partnerships.

Since 2014, Dr. Parisi has served as principal conductor of Summit Brass, where he has championed contemporary music and led commissions and premieres that have expanded the brass repertoire. Recent recording projects have reached international audiences through digital platforms, reflecting his ongoing dedication to artistic innovation, collaboration, and global engagement. He also serves as principal conductor of the internationally award-winning Fountain City Brass Band.

With an extensive discography as conductor and performer, Parisi has collaborated with distinguished artists worldwide. This stylistic breadth informs his teaching and leadership, enriching his work with students and professionals alike. Throughout his career, he has remained devoted to mentoring the next generation of musicians and educators, guided by a belief in the transformative power of music and its continued evolution.
